Ann Savoy Interviews
Ann Allen Savoy (b. 1952) was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, and raised in Richmond, Virginia. A musician, documentarian, and record producer, she is the author and compiler of the two-volume book Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People. After studying guitar and French throughout her early life, she moved to Eunice, Louisiana in 1977, where she became active in documenting and preserving the traditional Cajun and Creole music of Southwest Louisiana. With her husband Marc Savoy, her children Joel and Wilson Savoy, the fiddler Michael Doucet, and the Magnolia Sisters, she has toured widely and recorded several albums for Arhoolie Records, Vanguard Records, and Rounder Records.
This collection includes interviews with Louisiana musicians conducted by Savoy for the book Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People Volumes 1 and 2. Interviewees include significant figures in the history of Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco music.
